Ray Maxedon founded R. R. Sales in 1978 selling insulation as a traveling salesman for a company in Mt. Pleasant, TN. Because of his Red hair his customers gave him the nickname of Red Rooster thus giving the company the name it has today.
Over the years, Ray branched out selling water heater thermostats and oven elements. As business grew, his wife Betty started helping him and they began to operate out of the basement of their home.
By 1990 R. R. Sales was outgrowing the basement, so began the hunt for additional space with more room to grow. Betty and Ray stepped down to have their son Gary and his wife Belinda take over ownership and they purchased a 7,000 square foot warehouse where R. R. Sales is still going strong today. The new location was Colonel Coon’s property where the famous Mule Day knives were manufactured.
Gary ran the business with his wife from 1994 until 2015, he was always looking for something new to sell and new friends to make; he expanded to be a stocking distributor for over 30 companies and also a manufacturer’s representative for as many as 6 companies at one time. In 2015 Belinda became the head of R. R. Sales and continues to keep the legacy of Red Rooster going.
